B&C roundtable: BTL lender departures, hybrid products and utopian underwriters

Bridging & Commercial has launched its second filmed roundtable session, which discusses what events and circumstances could alter the BTL and specialist mortgage sectors and the potential impact this could have on exits in the bridging market.

The B&C roundtable video can be viewed in full on the B&C Roundtables page.

The event — which took place on Friday 5th April at Watson Farley & Williams’ offices and was chaired by B&C editor Beth Fisher — was supported by United Trust Bank and Hampshire Trust Bank.

Attendees included Alex Searle, sales director at Hampshire Trust Bank; and Gavin Diamond, commercial director of bridging at United Trust Bank.

The pair explained the impact an increase in lenders which have predominantly focused on bridging finance — but are now diversifying into other product areas, such as BTL — could have on these respective markets.

Specialist brokers were also in attendance to offer their thoughts on the current market, including Kim McGinley, director at VIBE Finance; Kevin Thomson, sales director at Connect for Intermediaries; Andrea Juniper, director at Only Bridging; and Simon Das, managing director at 978 Bridging.

Ranjeev Kumar, partner at Watson Farley & Williams, also gave a legal point of view on the importance of lenders being aware of security and routes of enforcement when creating new products.

The conversation featured an in-depth analysis of circumstances that could provide opportunities in the bridging and BTL markets, the positives and drawbacks of hybrid products and how beneficial it really is for brokers to deal with bridging underwriters and BDMs who also fully understand the BTL market.
