It is time for the industry's latest derby to begin, where the Association of Short Term Lenders and the Association of Bridging Professionals battle it out for the taking of the Trade Body Cup. Let’s kick off…

Forget the World Cup, there’s a much bigger match to be seen: The Association of Bridging Professionals (AOBP) V The Association of Short Term Lenders (ASTL), where Medianett acts as referee to the friendly game.

ASTL

Benson Hersch, Chief Executive

Age: 70

Height: 5’7”

Position: Chief Executive

Team members: 29 members and 12 associate members

Experience: CEO for two years

Wins: Improving the reputation of both the ASTL and the bridging industry with a professional image. Becoming an increasingly strong voice for the bridging industry and earning the respect of regulatory authorities. Ensuring our opinions are taken into account resulting in a number of wins for us.

Losses: When I had to get up before my entire Primary School and sing (I am tone deaf and my singing voice is terrible)

Goals:
To grow membership.
To continue to work to promote standards in bridging and short term lending.
To work with regulators and the Treasury to ensure that lenders in the bridging industry. have the most favourable environment within which to work and that bridging is fairly represented in any new regulation.
To fight for the rights of bridging lenders.
To promote the advantages of bridging in the right circumstances with the right lender and encourage brokers and borrowers to choose ASTL members when looking for a bridging loan.
To represent the bridging industry in the press.
To help to prevent fraud through fraud awareness and by providing access to discounted fraud software.

Team colours: Red White and Blue – we’re British through and through

Friendly: England (no club preference) I’m a rugby man and my team is Saracens.

Player: Messi

Joining the team: We are the only trade body purely for bridging lenders, who will fight for lenders and work with the regulator to ensure that any regulation takes lenders’ needs into account.  The more lenders who join the ASTL the stronger the body becomes to the benefit of everybody in the industry.

The ASTL also strives to raise standards in the industry.  Membership of the ASTL is like a kite mark.  It shows that a lender abides by a code of conduct and the standards set by the Association.   Brokers looking for a responsible short term lender to work with should feel confident when they use a member of the ASTL.

AOBP

Rob Jupp, CEO of Brightstar Financial

Age: 42

Height: 6ft 8

Position: Chairman

Team members: Almost 700

Experience: With the AOBP for over two years and as Chairman for one.

Joining the team: If you want to engage seriously in the UK short term sector you simply have to know what’s going on and work with an organisation that absolutely has your interests at heart and that is The AOBP.

Wins: Growing membership, working with the regulator, rejecting the errant members of our community, bringing in an industry wide qualification and selling out every event since elected as Chairman.

Losses: I’ve never done anything wrong as I’m perfect and have never thought that my in-laws fridge was a toilet when I’m drunk as I don’t drink so that wouldn’t have happened.”

Goals: The completion of the industry wide qualification, to successfully navigate EU Mortgage Directive, to grow the strength and quality of the membership.

Team colours: Blue and White strips, founded in 1901, playing at the American Express Community Stadium, nickname ‘The Seagulls’.  Easy, next question.

Friendly: I support 1910 Charity Shield Winners, biggest club in Sussex, Brighton and Hove Albion FC.

Player: A big one with a terrible disciplinary record.
