Breaking News: Borro funds Star Wars court fee

Borro has raised funds for a client who needed £100,000 to pay for legal fees to fight Hollywood filmmaker George Lucas.

Borro has raised funds for a client who needed £100,000 to pay for legal fees to fight Hollywood filmmaker George Lucas.

The client, Andrew Ainsworth, had designed and created the props for more than 200 characters in the first Star Wars film.

He was attempting to win distribution rights to sell Stormtrooper sets of armour in the UK using the mould he created in 1976.

Andrew won the case but the legal fees left him in financial difficulty after he put everything he had into legal costs.

Borro was able to provide the finance to allow him access to his moulds for 48 hour periods which enabled him to continue production.

“Our unique ability to leverage against a number of different asset classes that can be sold at auction, house as well as property means we can look at things many other lenders would have to turn away,” said Claire Barrington-Jones, Group Sales Director at Borro.

“This particular item was challenging to value but we utilised our relationships with leading auction houses and were able to assist the client in raising his funds quickly.”

Andrew has now paid back Borro and now ships around 4,000 items a year across the world at a cost of between £600-1700 per asset using his moulds.

“It’s wonderful to see Andrew’s business is successful and we played a small part in helping him achieve this when more traditional forms of lending were not an option,” added Claire.
