B&C Awards 2016: The winners' reactions

The winners at last week's Bridging & Commercial Awards have expressed their delight at being recognised for their hard work.

Seventeen awards were handed out at the prestigious ceremony at London’s Hurlingham Club where over 600 attendees were present.

Shawbrook Bank sponsored the event and Jim Moulton, Head of Marketing & Broker Engagement for Commercial Mortgages, was delighted to have been part of what has become a stand-out event.

“The team at Bridging & Commercial are a pleasure to deal with and as title sponsors of the 2016 event, we were impressed by the representation of the Shawbrook brand in conjunction with that of B&C.”

Shawbrook were also named Commercial Lender of the Year and Jim added: “The Commercial Lender of the Year award is a huge achievement and is testament to the hard work of our teams, day in, day out.

“The broker community sits at the very core of our proposition and their votes in this category mean a huge amount to everyone involved in the Shawbrook business.

Adapt Finance received the first award of the day, Bridging Broker of the Year, and director Jordan McBriar said winning the award meant the world to them.

“We still believe we are different in most senses of the word, but winning the ‘Best Broker’ elevates us to another level by means of profile and stature.

“The real pleasure for us was to be congratulated so highly by our ‘deemed’ to be competition.

“We have never felt the brokerages we ‘compete’ with are against us in anyway as they are as different to us as we are to them, so to be congratulated by our broker partners as well as our lender and professional partners makes the moment even prouder.”

Rob Jupp, CEO of Brightstar, speaking about its award added: “We were delighted to be named the UK’s Best Specialist Distributor for the third year in succession.

“The day was a huge success and we even had a British summer, if only for one day.”

"To be included in an incredibly strong category against many of our peers, this is a fantastic achievement for the team.”

This year’s awards also saw the creation of a new category, Specialist Bank of the Year.

United Trust Bank scooped the prize and Harley Kagan, Managing Director, said the judges praised the high levels of service and commitment showed by all the bank’s division.

“Winning this award is another highlight of an already outstanding year for United Trust Bank.

“Earlier this year we were placed 25th in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100 of the UK’s fastest growing private companies and soon afterwards we learned that we have been nominated for two awards in the PWC UK Private Business Awards 2016.

“I would like to thank everyone who voted for us in these awards with whom we regularly work and transact and, of course, credit must also go to the hard-working and talented staff at the bank.

“The support of our customers, brokers and staff have made United Trust Bank the outstanding business it is today.”

Amicus Property Finance were named Development Lender of the Year, while its Managing Director Keith Aldridge was named Personality of the Year. Claudia Cataldo was highly commended in the Underwriter of the Year category, and Amicus was also highly commended in the Bridging Lender of the Year category.

Last year, Amicus Property Finance were runners-up in the Development Lender of the Year category and Keith felt this justified the significant investment it had made to make sure developers used it as a first port of call.

“The majority of the investment I am referring to has been committed to the recruitment of quality experienced people and this was recognised in the delight we had when Claudia Cataldo was recognised in the underwriter category.

“To have been recognised in four major categories is an outstanding achievement and each member of the growing Amicus Property Finance team has played their part.

“I am very proud to be the MD of such a vibrant company with such an exciting future.”

“We have been shortlisted for many awards, but these are the first we’ve won. It was such a great feeling of elation, and almost relief, to have broken this duck.

“It also allowed me personally to share the podium with my core management team and then everyone in attendance from CSF.

“While we celebrate now, we will not rest on our laurels. This year has started off very well and we must continue to push to be bigger and better than before. Next year we’re aiming for a hat-trick!”

“The team here work exceptionally hard day in, day out and to be recognised in this way really does make it all worthwhile.

“I’m also very happy for Justin Cooper, who was named BDM of the Year.

“He’s a top bloke and, based on this evidence, his brokers love him as much as we do.

“I must also add a note of thanks to the many brokers who voted for us, and who continue to support us.

“Without them we wouldn’t have a business and I hope we will carry on being the best bridging lender they deal with.”
