Estate agents value Stonehenge at £50m

.

500 of the top estate agents have taken part in a survey, giving what-if valuations for Britian’s most iconic landmarks.

The results of the survey, carried out by Findaproperty.com, make interesting reading – Stonehenge has been slapped with a, albeit theoretical, price tag of £50m, whilst Blackpool Tower has been valued at £60m. Number 10 would get just over £5m and Leeds Town Hall £30m.

The estate agents predicted that collectively the lot would fetch just under £200 million at auction.

At just under £52 million, Brighton Pavilion and Stonehenge prove to be more than just a colonial souvenir or a pile of stones, but rather lucrative real estate.

Property analyst, Nigel Lewis from FindaProperty.com said: “Of course, we know these landmarks will never be put up for sale, but with property prices shooting up ten per cent in value over the past year we thought it would be fun to see what the market consensus was about their values.

“Based on these valuations, the Government and Crown probably own enough land and property to pay down the national debt pretty significantly.

“It’s quite a challenge for estate agents more used to valuing suburban semis to put an accurate valuation on a royal castle or ancient monument, but there was a surprising amount of agreement between the different agents we spoke to.”

Other landmarks to get the price tag treatment include The Sage building in Gateshead, valued at £70m; Birmingham’s shopping hub, The Bull Ring, put at £750m; Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower, priced at £25m and the world famous St Michael’s Cathedral in Coventry put at £50m.

And not content with simply valuing, the agents asked came up with some amusing one-liner descriptions of each landmark. Some of the best included:

Windsor Castle – “Long after fire sale, this fairytale property finally goes under the hammer.”

10 Downing Street – “Central London property with 24/7 security. Might suit young family or best friends seeking flatshare.”

Blackpool Tower – “Parisian-style development with excellent sea views.”

Stonehenge – “Airy property with bags of potential. Comes with land but needs serious renovation, including new roof and double-glazing.”
