Blue Skies come to Birmingham in second bridging road show

Midlands brokers attending the second leg of the Blue Skies Bridging road show, held in Birmingham last Thursday, came away from the event with more than just goodie bags, reporting a new found knowledge and confidence in dealing with bridging finance for their clients.

At the plush Malmaison hotel in Birmingham city centre, short term lender Cheval geared up for their second of their nationwide shows, taking the full room of brokers through short term finance in the current climate, as well as case studies and examples of where they could use it to benefit clients.

Attendees ranged from old-timers looking to re-familiarize themselves with bridging finance and changes in criteria, to new brokers who had no previous bridging loan experience.

Natasha Phillips, a mortgage advisor from Simpson Financial Services, said: “I’ve been an advisor for two years now and so far have never touched a bridging deal, so it’s high time I learnt. Being here today was really useful, I now recognise where I could have used bridging finance in past cases. I’ve definitely been given a lot to take back to the office with me.”

Meanwhile, Howard Thomas, an independent financial advisor from Derby, revealed that even with forty years of experience, the seminar was still worthwhile. “Bridging finance is not something you do a huge amount of,” he said, “but it’s about having knowledge and not being scared of it. If brokers understood bridging better they would use it more.”

Following an in-depth presentation given by Cheval’s National Sales Manager, Gareth Lewis, brokers stuck around through the networking lunch to talk to the lender’s representatives and exchange stories of hard-to-place cases.

Allan Kay, CEO of Cheval, said the day was a resounding success, adding: “The feedback from attending brokers has been especially useful for us, we found out that many brokers still aren’t totally comfortable with bridging finance, and don’t realise all the ways it can be used, such as in probate cases, for example. This is an area we’ll probably focus more on in upcoming shows.”

The next Blue Skies Bridging road show will take place in Central London on Thursday the 1st of July. The morning seminar will begin at 10am with a coffee registration and include presentations, discussion tables and a networking buffet lunch, as well as a Cheval information pack and goodie bag to take home.

Another benefit Blue Skies Bridging road show attendees will receive is membership to the Cheval Club – an exclusive club being launched initially to Blue Skies brokers. Membership comes with an exclusive interest rate on 1st charge deals and an additional procuration fee payable on loan completion, as well as a quarterly prize draw (“you never know, it might be an iPad...” Gareth joked).
