FCA targets unauthorised commercial lender

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a warning regarding an unauthorised commercial lender believed to be carrying on regulated activities which require authorisation.

According to its website, Harbex Finance Services, of 6-9 Cranwood Street, London, claims to offer commercial, business and home loans ranging from £15,000 to £500m.

The FCA stated that the firm was not authorised and was targeting people in the UK.

In a statement, the regulator said: “Almost all firms and individuals offering, promoting or selling financial services or products in the UK have to be authorised by us.

“However, some firms act without our authorisation and some knowingly run investment scams.

“We strongly advise you to only deal with financial firms that are authorised by us, and check the Financial Services Register to ensure they are.”

Harbex Finance Services has been operating via [email protected], [email protected] and at www.harbexfinancier.n.nu.

On its website, the company claims to serve clients in the UK, Europe and Asia, as well as both Africa and America.

Other finance on offer includes car loans, personal loans and second mortgages.

The FCA added: “If a firm does not appear on the register but claims it does, contact our consumer helpline on 0800 111 6768.

“You should also be aware that if you give money to an unauthorised firm, you will not be covered by the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) if things go wrong.”

The full warning is published on the FCA’s website.
