B&C Awards 2017: How does it all work?

Bridging & Commercial is hosting its 9th Awards ceremony on 8th June 2017 at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, in association with Titlesolv.

For the past three years, we’ve held the event at this I-can’t-believe-we’re-still-in-London venue, with its rolling green lawns and classic country club atmosphere.

The Palm Court and Broomhouse Suite offer unrivalled space, light and elegance in which to hold what has become the industry’s favourite annual occasion.

As the event is centred on honouring the best and the brightest in the bridging, commercial, development and specialist finance sectors, the focus is undoubtedly on the awards themselves (although we like to think our whole-day drinking and eating fest is somewhat an attractive element, too).

We have been able to refine the awards process to what can undoubtedly be described as fully transparent, fair and, above all, representative of the industry.

So, what happens and when?

Online voting is now open and will close on 21st April at 5pm.

Users are encouraged to fill in the names of their preferred winners in each category – there are 20 this year.

On 24th April, we will create a shortlist by taking the top 10 in each category and getting two panels of brokers and lenders to select their top 4-6. The compilation of their selections will form the official 2017 shortlist which will be announced via B&C on April 27th. Those in the running have been chosen by the industry, for the industry.

Shortlisted nominees will have until May 16th to produce the supporting information required to progress their nomination(s). This comprises of two references, detailing why that company or individual deserves to win. Nominees are all contacted individually to make sure the next steps are understood.

On May 18th, our judging panels – announced in early March - will meet to decide on the winners. Brokers judge lender categories and vice versa. There is much discussion, tears, lunch and more debate – this is no easy job and our judges need to reach a majority for each award in order to determine who walks away with those prestigious statuettes on the day.

B&C/Medianett has two votes in each 12-person panel – one on behalf of our editorial department who work with the majority of the nominees on a weekly basis and one on behalf of our commercial team.

The panels are chaired by two well-known and impartial figures who understand the markets being assessed and only have a vote where there is a tie-break.

We then get on with engraving those winners’ names into our golden Bs and finalising plans for the event, in anticipation of the 620-strong descent come 8th June.

What’s the programme for the day?

  • 12 noon - Guest arrival and drinks reception in the summer sunshine
  • 1pm - Call to enter the Broomhouse Suite
  • 1.15pm - Welcome and charity presentation
  • 2pm - Lunch is served

  • 8.30pm The after party coaches arrive and whisk guests off to the Precise-sponsored extravaganza – we recommend keeping some energy in reserve for this

What should I wear?

The theme for the 2017 B&C Awards is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You are welcome to give a nod to the theme but, as always, the dress code is black tie as we like to think of every B&C Awards as the ultimate occasion to get dressed up.

What sort of food and drinks package is included?

We’ve saved the best info for last… Aside from a sumptuous three-course lunch and sparkling drinks reception, B&C has a generous drinks allocation on each table, followed by an open bar from 5pm. Plus, the after party will have drinks aplenty to take you into the wee hours.

What about accommodation?

We have secured a great rate for the evening of the event at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel. Quoting the code B&CA080617, guests are able to book a Chelsea King Suite and enjoy breakfast the next morning for just £240.
