Metro Bank adds regulation expert to board

Metro Bank has expanded its board with the appointment of a new non-executive director.

The challenger bank has named Monique Melis, managing director and global head of regulatory consultancy at Duff & Phelps, as an independent non-executive director.

Monique will join the Metro Bank board with immediate effect and brings with her extensive knowledge in financial services and is a specialist on internal controls, compliance and regulatory requirements.

As a recognised industry expert, Monique has advised banks, large global hedge funds and traditional asset managers.

"Joining the revolution in British banking, Monique brings a rare combination of international regulatory and compliance expertise as well as proven entrepreneurial experience of founding and growing her own successful business,” said Vernon Hill, chairman and founder of Metro Bank.

“Her insight, knowledge and skills will complement the wealth of experience on the board.

“I know she'll be a great addition to the Metro Bank family and look forward to working with her over the coming months and years.”

Monique’s appointment brings the number of directors on the board of Metro Bank to 11, including eight independent directors.

"In less than seven years, Metro Bank has proven that one of the oldest industries in the UK is ripe for disruption,” added Monique.

“The opportunity to create a better service for customers excites me and I'm thrilled to be joining the board."
