10 Questions With... Tomer Aboody, Director of MT Finance

1.When did you start working in financial services and where were you doing before that?

 

I started in 2007, before that I worked in property investments and trading, I saw the property world changing, not enough money going around and not enough money being leant, so I decided to become a lender...

 

2. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

 

A sports agent, then I got into property when I was about 21...

 

3. What would you be doing now if you weren’t at MT

 

I’d probably still be doing property investments and trading, but if I could do anything in the world, then I’d be a sports agent, I’d like to manage footballers – the top earning ones!

 

4. What’s the best and worst thing about your job?

 

Being able to meet new people, diversify, raise money and generally working for a great company.

The worst thing is the lack of sleep! There’s a lot of work to go through, so you never switch off. The only time I can switch off is when I’m on a plane and my phone has to be off.

 

5. What trends have you noticed within the bridging industry over the last 12 months?

 

There have been some more exits in the market, but not as many as I thought there would be.

I expect that over the next 12 months the banks will start lending a bit more, I hope so, but still it will be tough and I think investors will struggle. I think the borrowers will be mainly those with cash flow problems rather than property investors, as I don’t think there are many deals out there.

 

6. Who do you fancy off the telly?

 

Natalie Portman.

 

7. What’s your favourite film?

 

Back To The Future.

 

8. What’s your favourite book?

 

Richard Branson’s autobiography.

 

9. If you could have a super power for one day what would it be and why?

 

It would be to fly all over world and see my family.

 

10. Tell me one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

 

That I speak fluent Hebrew maybe?
