B&C Awards 2018: How does it all work?

This is the big one: Bridging & Commercial is hosting its 10th awards ceremony on 7th June 2018 at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, in association with Masthaven.

For the past four years, we’ve held the event at this I-can’t-believe-we’re-still-in-London venue, with its rolling green lawns and classic country club atmosphere.

The Palm Court and Broomhouse Suite offer unrivalled space, light and elegance in which to hold what has become the industry’s favourite annual occasion.

While the event is centred on honouring the best and the brightest in the bridging, commercial, development and specialist finance sectors, and the focus has traditionally been on the awards themselves, it is also Medianett’s milestone birthday, celebrating a decade in business. So, make no mistake, this is going to be a party.

You can expect the usual non-stop eating and drinking fest, plus several special surprises along the way. We’ve switched things up a bit too, by holding the event in the evening rather than the afternoon. Prepare to experience the Hurlingham Club by night…

So, what happens and when?

We have refined the awards process to what can undoubtedly be described as fully transparent, fair and, above all, representative of the industry.

Online voting is now closed.

Voters are encouraged to fill in the names of their preferred winners in each category – there are 18 that require voting this year:

Best Bridging Lender Newcomer
Best Use of Fintech
Best Bridging Broker
Specialist Product of the Year
Best Commercial Broker
Best Bridging Partner
Best Development Broker
Underwriter of the Year
Best Specialist Distributor
Lender Relationship Manager of the Year
Service Excellence Award – Brokers
Specialist Bank of the Year
Development Lender of the Year
Alternative Lender of the Year
Service Excellence Award – Lenders
Commercial Lender of the Year
Regulated Lender of the Year
Bridging Lender of the Year

On 20th April, we will create a longlist by taking the top 10 in each category and getting two panels of brokers and lenders to select their top four to six. The compilation of their selections will form the official 2018 shortlist, which will be announced via B&C on 26th April. Those in the running will have been chosen by the industry, for the industry.

Shortlisted nominees will have until 16th May to produce the supporting information required to progress their nomination(s). This comprises two references, detailing why that company or individual deserves to win. Nominees are all contacted individually to make sure the next steps are understood.

On 18th May, our judging panels – announced in February – will meet to decide on the winners. Brokers judge lender categories and vice versa. There is much discussion (even tears), lunch and more debate – this is no easy job and our judges need to reach a majority for each award to determine who walks away with those prestigious statuettes on the day.

B&C/Medianett has two votes in each 12-person panel – one on behalf of our editorial department, who work with most of the nominees on a weekly basis, and one on behalf of our commercial team.

The panels are chaired by two well-known and impartial figures who understand the markets being assessed and only have a vote where there is a tie to break.

We then get on with engraving winners’ names into our 10-year special edition golden Bs and finalising plans for the event, in anticipation of the 650-strong descent come 7th June.

What should I wear?

The theme for the 2018 B&C Awards is our 10th birthday. As such, we expect everyone to make an exceptional effort this year: think classic tuxes for men, and black and gold evening wear for women.

What sort of food and drinks package is included?

We’ve saved the best info for last… Aside from a sumptuous three-course dinner and Champagne reception, B&C has a generous drinks allocation on each table, followed by an open bar from approximately 11pm.
