MBE returns to form - Day 1: A resounding success

.

The first day of the 2010 Mortgage Business Expo proved a resounding success. With 1,400 delegates through the door – 900 in the morning alone – stands were busy, hands were shook and legs ached.

There was the usual foray of branded pens, umbrellas, folders and notebooks, but those thinking outside the box provided some not so traditional treats too. Of the, shall we say less ‘conventional’ surprises on offer were; cup cakes courtesy of The Debt Advisor stand (I know I certainly turn to cake when I’m broke), Champagne served by West One Loans and a shoe shining service provided by Drawbridge Finance (Mark Posniak’s genius method of distracting his competitors).

Those spotted being shined included Andrew Bloom and Chris Parr of Masthaven Bridging Finance, (apparently their shoes took particularly long to shine), and Eugene Esterkin and Gary Lederberg.

Taking a break from the polish, Andrew Bloom of Masthaven told B&C: “I would like to express my thanks to Mo Mulki [publisher of B&C] for donating furniture from his living room to the B&C stand. I just hope he doesn’t have a thong to match the rug and chairs.

Boys and bananas. Sigh.

As ever the day turned out a selection of interesting visitors, including one man with plaited hair down his back, long enough to rival the tresses of the models strolling about in catsuits.

Gareth Lewis of Cheval, handing out fruit on the B&C stand, said: “I received some interesting looks from those I offered my plums to.”

Elsewhere on the floor of Kensington Olympia, Marc Goldberg of Blemain Group conducted some very important looking broker meetings by the bins and those Drawbridge Finance boys went one further once again, by hiring a professional photographer to take snaps of happy Expo attendees milling about their stand... the only question remaining is what will Day 2 bring?

Err... Richard and Chris, where are your hands?
