10 Questions with... Nicholas Jones of Blemain

.

How long have you been at Blemain Group and what’s your background?

I started at Blemain Group in 2000 and was promoted to National Sales Manager in 2007, which was a great honour. I have also worked at Compass Finance and the Bank of Scotland; so it’s all been sales and finance for me.

2. What do you think your alternative career path would be?

I started playing golf as a toddler and this would have been my ultimate career path, but for one thing or another - mainly the ability - it was clear the tour was never a possibility.

3. What’s the best part about your job?

The best part of the job is interacting with brokers and identifying new and exciting opportunities in the market place.

I am also head of a great team who always strive to ensure the demands of the sales unit are met and excelled. Couple this with a company that is constantly driving to develop its lending opportunities make my job role thoroughly enjoyable

4.  ...And the worst?

The worst, simply there aren’t enough hours in the day.  Aside from that...speed cameras of course.

5. What would you say your career highlight is?

It’s got to be the promotion to National Sales Manager. I was proud to be given the responsibility of running the sales division at Blemain Group.

6. What positives do you feel have come out of the recession for the industry?

I think more than anything, the relationship between broker and lender is stronger than ever, introducers are now more than happy to work closer with lenders to understand the workings of both companies to help develop products and a better understanding of lending decisions. In the past the finance brokerages would be very focused on one area of the industry, whether that be Mortgage, Secured Loan, Bridging Finance or Commercial Lending. However, these past few years since the recession, a large proportion of the financial intermediary marketplace have become more of a one-stop-shop for all financial requirements and consider all aspects of lending which certainly has synergies with the Blemain Group Residential and Commercial long and short term offerings. I now see both broker and lender working together to get the most appropriate product for the client.

7. Now for something personal – who do you fancy off the telly?

It would have to be Rachel Weisz from The Mummy movies.

8. Do you have any unusual hobbies you get up to in your spare time?

Well that’s assuming I actually have any spare time... Can’t say I get up to anything unusual – just the usual golf, Call of Duty and being a dad but not necessarily in that order!

9. What would you put in Room 101 if you had the chance?

Easy one….Spiders, rudeness, speed cameras and double yellow lines

Finally, what’s something others would be surprised to find out about you?

I don’t actually drink! Fortunately this helps to keep the embarrassing moments to a minimum. I’m also a bit of a control freak.
