A property development business owned by an ex-England footballer has applied for planning permission to build a restaurant in Salford on the site of a former rugby team’s social club.
‘Signature Developments’, which is owned by Manchester United defender Gary Neville and his father Neville Neville, hopes to demolish Folly Lane Social Club and replace it with a two-storey restaurant that will be able to seat 92 diners.
However, despite the social club having been unused for three years, over 200 local residents have signed a petition opposing the development due to concerns about parking, noise, litter and rats. Nonetheless, planning officers have recommended that councillors approve the plans when they are considered tomorrow.
In a report they said: "It is considered that on balance the proposed development would regenerate and improve the appearance of the site and, subject to the recommended conditions, there would not be an unacceptable impact on the amenity of neighbouring residents.”
