Bridging lender chases new type of funding

.

The chairman of a North London bridging lender has begun chasing a new funding line: £10,000 to go towards a charity dedicated to sufferers of the rare degenerative disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Duncan Kreeger of West One Loans plans to raise the money by running this year’s ING New York Marathon, and is looking for sponsors to help him reach his £10k goal.

“PSP is a little known disease that is very underfunded. The PSP Association is an amazing charity that carries out essential research and helps sufferers of the disease.

“My fiance’s uncle passed away last year as a result of the PSP, so I have had first hand experience of its effects and the incredible work the Association carries out.”

A rare, terminal disease of the brain, PSP impairs a person’s movements and balance and can lead to changes in mood, behaviour and personality.

There are over 10,000 sufferers in the UK alone and no known cures. From the onset of symptoms sufferers have an average of seven years to live and those affected are eventually left unable to walk, talk eat or see.

Commenting on the how Duncan’s sponsorship money will be used, Helen Porter, Community and Events Fundraiser at The PSP Association, said: “The funds raised from the marathon will go towards providing our key services, such as our PSP Clinics and local care and support groups, as well as sponsoring research into the causes, treatments and eventually a cure for PSP & CBD.

“We are incredibly grateful to Duncan and to all those who have given so generously to support the work of The PSP Association.”

So far Duncan has raised just under £2,000, with his biggest sponsor being his parents David and Julia Kreeger who have donated £1,000.

“The response so far has been great. I’ve got till November to reach the target and I’m hoping to smash it. There’s plenty of cash floating around this industry so I hoping people will be generous.”

But why £10k and the New York Marathon over London’s?

“Running the New York marathon over the London one gives me the chance to train all summer along,” explains Duncan.

“And as for raising £10k, well I want to do something significant: I want to raise an important sum that will make an important change in people’s lives.”

As for the grueling training, Duncan – who plans to marry in October – has lost almost a stone in weight, has given up smoking as well as ditching the junk food.

“I feel fantastic, I haven’t started my proper marathon training yet but I’m still working out 3-4 times a week. By the time I run the marathon I’ll be in the peak of fitness – just in time for the wedding.

“I just need to raise the money now, and I will. By hook or by crook I’ll get there.”
