Mortgage Sleep Out to return in 2022

Mortgage Sleep Out has confirmed it will be returning on 25th November 2022 to raise money for End Youth Homelessness.

Launched after a conversation between Rob Jupp, CEO at Brightstar Group, and Maria Harris, director at Digital Cat Consultancy, the initiative invites people from businesses across the financial sector to stage their own ‘sleep out’ event across the country to experience what unhoused people go through each night.

The first event, organised on 30th November 2018, saw over 1,000 participants take part.

A group of industry musicians — led by Paul Brett, managing director of intermediaries at Landbay, and Andrew Montlake, managing director at Coreco — also released a charity single, Take Me Home, with proceeds added to the fundraiser.

In total, the last event raised £110,000, £50,000 of which went directly to End Youth Homelessness’s partner charities to fund vital local services, while the remainder was invested in the charity’s core work across the UK.

Next year, the charity initiative aims to surpass the previous sum raised.

Businesses across the industry which are interested in participating can register their interest on the official Mortgage Sleep Out website to receive more information about the fundraiser and how to arrange a sleep out in 2022.

Details of local events will be shared to allow businesses to join existing sleep outs and share the experience with industry peers.

Rob said: “We were very proud of our industry coming together to support a vital cause like End Youth Homelessness.

“Unfortunately, this issue is still affecting the lives of young people across the UK, and we’re hoping the industry will once again rally round and show the same dedication towards the cause for 2022.

“We’re enormously fortunate that this will be temporary for us, but the Mortgage Sleep Out serves as an important reminder of the real challenge we are trying to tackle with this initiative, and we’re keen to see as many people as possible join us.”

Andy Shields, joint MD at Barcadia Media, added: “We’re confident we can once again make a real difference by supporting the work that End Youth Homelessness and its partner charities do every day across the country.

“Our industry always throws itself wholeheartedly behind important causes and this is another opportunity to use that collective power for a very deserving cause.

“Of course, we understand that not everyone may be able to take part, but there are plenty of ways to support the cause, and we’re sure many individuals and businesses will want to donate to our campaign to show their support too.

“We look forward to announcing further details of the 2022 Mortgage Sleepout in due course and urge you all to take a look at our website to find out how you can be involved.”

Participants and people who want to raise awareness of this initiative can promote the event and share their experiences on Twitter and LinkedIn using the hashtags #MortgageSleepOut and #MSO22.
