YBS helps DEC Ukraine Appeal with £50,000 donation

Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) has donated £50,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee's (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

In addition, the lender has announced it is unrestricting the causes colleagues can support through its paid volunteering scheme, which allocates each employee up to 31 hours of paid leave every year to take part in voluntary or charitable activities.

Employees will now be able to take paid time off between now and Easter to give practical help, sorting and packing donations in support of Ukraine.

Stephen White, interim chief executive at YBS, said: “Like most people in the UK, I have watched the horrific events in Ukraine and the ensuing humanitarian crisis that is unfolding.

“Our purpose at YBS is to provide real help with real life; as the world changes, our purpose remains.

“The priority in Ukraine now is to help people with access to clean water, health care, and immediate support, and that is why I am proud we can make this donation of £50,000 to the DEC Ukraine Appeal.

“The experts in organisations like the DEC are clear that in these circumstances, immediate financial support for their efforts on the ground is what will make the most difference.

“We can step up to provide real help with that, so we will.”
