B&C Awards 2023: Winners revealed




We are excited to announce the winners of this year’s from the B&C Awards 2023.

The evening, which brought the magic of Rio De Janeiro Carnival to The Hurlingham Club in Fulham, was sponsored by MFS and welcomed over 780 guests to see who would win one of the 30 awards up for grabs for the best of the specialist finance industry.

In total, 30 winners were announced as the bridging, commercial, development and alternative finance industries met to celebrate the success and growth of these sectors over the past 12 months.

Glenhawk won the coveted Bridging Lender of the Year for the third time in a row, as well as the Green Product of the Year award.

“I’m incredibly proud of what the team has achieved, they really are the best, and to do this for three years in a row is nothing short of amazing,” said Guy Harrington, CEO and founder of Glenhawk.

“There are some brilliant lenders out there and for us to be voted by our trusted intermediary partners again to win is incredible, so thank you to them, all our funding partners and professional service providers.”

Castle Trust Bank established themselves as Best Bridging Newcomer — Lender, while Portway Finance grabbed the award for Best Bridging Newcomer — Broker.

FinSpace Group won the prizes for Best Bridging Broker and Best Development Broker, while Best Commercial Broker was awarded to Watts Commercial Finance.

The trophy for the Regulated Bridging Broker of the Year was given to Clifton Private Finance.

West One managed to take away three prizes on the night: Best D&I Campaigner of the Year, Best Development Lender and Large Loan Lender of the Year. 

Walking away with two awards was Together with Specialist BTL Lender of the Year and Underwriter of the Year, which was awarded to the firm’s underwriting director Michael Schofield. 

“I am incredibly humbled to have won the Underwriter of the Year at the B&C Awards for the third time. Thank you to everyone who voted, it really means the world [that] we can receive these awards to evidence the hard work our teams put in every day,” said Michael.

For its 48-hour rescue bridge, Albatross Capital won the Specialist Product of the Year.

Picking up the prize for Service Excellence — Broker was Propp.

Peter Williams, CEO at Propp, said: “In a crowded market, the service you provide is the key to success so winning this award is huge feather in the Propp cap.

“We’re immensely proud of our team and grateful that we’re being recognised for the top standard of service we strive to deliver.”

Lender Relationship Manager of the Year went to Christian Gugolz, of MT Finance.

The Best Specialist Distributor trophy was awarded to Positive Lending.

David Coleman, head of sales at Positive Lending, commented: “An amazing night at the B&C Awards 2023 in the company of some of the industry’s finest, made even better by taking home a new addition for the Positive Lending trophy cabinet.

“Big thank you to the judges that recognised and voted for us in this category.”

The B&C award for Best Specialist Finance Partner, was presented to VAS Valuation Group.

Meanwhile, Best Solicitor was awarded to Seddons, and Best Surveyor to Anderson Wilde & Harris.

Jamie Chamberlain, director of business development at Anderson Wilde & Harris, commented: “Thank you to all of the judging panel for awarding Anderson Wilde & Harris the Best Surveyor prize. 

“The valuation team worked incredibly hard this year in a very challenging market, and to have this recognised means a huge amount.”

Best Specialist BTL Broker of the Year went to LDN Finance, while Best Specialist Finance Network was awarded to Synergy Commercial Finance.

Marketing Partner of the Year — announced by Medianett Publishing’s marketing director Megan Goncalves — was given to Somo, while OSB Group led by Jon Hall won this year’s Editor’s Choice Award.

For his work in the specialist finance industry, the Outstanding Contribution Award was handed to Paresh Raja, founder and CEO of MFS. 

The award winners were carefully chosen by two judging panels — comprising a range of broker and lender experts from the industry — based on video submitted by all shortlisted nominees from each category.
