EY launches 2024 UK bridging market survey

EY, in collaboration with Bridging & Commercial, has officially opened its annual UK bridging finance market survey.

The seventh bridging report will provide views and insights into market trends over the past 12 months and key challenges the industry faces.

This year, there are additional questions on the looming general election, how lender and broker profitability has changed year-on-year, and updates on companies’ ESG strategies.

The survey also delves into the size of the bridging market and variable and default interest rates.

The EY Bridging Survey is a valued source of insight and transparency to the market, and we are delighted to be teaming up with Bridging & Commercial Magazine for the seventh annual survey” said Alex Araujo, partner and head of EY’s Specialty Finance Strategy & Transactions practice.

Brokers and lenders operating in the bridging finance sector that would like to participate can access the survey, here.

The survey closes on 1st March.

"With a backdrop of high interest rates — albeit stabilised at 5.25% — private sector home completions plummeting in 2023, and property transactions falling at the end of last year, we are navigating through a period of significant change,” commented Beth Fisher, managing director at Medianett Publishing.

"Despite these challenges, the bridging market remains resilient; the ASTL reported that loan books had hit a record high in Q3 of last year, exceeding £7bn for the second consecutive quarter.

“Applications and completions on the rise, despite a difficult market, are testament to the adaptability and strength of this sector.

“It will be intriguing to delve into the contributing factors and potential obstacles the market foresees in maintaining its momentum.

"We are pleased to collaborate once again with EY on what promises to be a comprehensive and thought-provoking survey, which will be unveiled exclusively in the March/April issue of Bridging & Commercial Magazine."

Names and companies of those taking part will not be disclosed.
