Steve Burns leaves AFIG

Steve Burns (pictured above) has today (13th February) announced his departure from AFIG, formerly known as Adapt Finance.

Steve — who left the Armed Forces and jumped straight into a property career by launching his own estate agency in 1996 — co-founded specialist bridging and development brokerage Adapt Finance in March 2014 and helped the business win numerous accolades along the way.

After eight years — and close to £1bn of property debt deployed, creating 3,000 homes in location across the whole of the UK — Manchester- and London-based Adapt merged with structural defects insurance provider Advantage (A.H.C.I) to form AFIG in 2023.

Steve, who then became chief operating officer at AFIG, said in a LinkedIn post this morning: “[This is] an uncomfortable, but necessary post to announce that I am no longer part of the AFIG team.

“It has been an absolute blast, with the past decade crammed to bursting with the most wonderful memories anyone could ever have hoped for.

“With AFIG (formerly Adapt Finance) launching into the next exciting phase of its development, and following serious self-reflection on my own vision for the future, it was clear to me that this would be in a different direction.

“The next steps of my journey are uncertain, but fill me with an immense sense of opportunity and excitement, along with a chunk of trepidation.

“Those who know AFIG and Adapt know full well we were not a business first and foremost, but a family who just all happened to be pretty good at specialist lending.

“This is not just a case of a leaving card, crappy present, and maybe a few pints. This is much bigger and much more gut wrenching than perhaps many can imagine. But happiness is a choice and for once I’m putting myself first.

“Thanks to my former team, who all have exciting times ahead and who I’ll delight in watching grow further, and thanks to all my professional contacts, for your unwavering supported over the last decade.

“To the future: bring it on.”
