10 Questions with John Ferguson of Only Bridging

.

A Chelsea supporter whose Sunday dreams are about to be realised would ban Pat Butcher's earrings and call centres...

Alexandra Jones spoke to John Ferguson, the new Sales Director at Only Bridging...

B&C: How long have you been in the industry and how did you get to where you are now?

JF: At 18 I began by running two of my own businesses in the UK and then in America. I then returned to the UK and graduated before working for the sales department at Vodafone. I moved into the private school sector working for their marketing and finance departments before being headhunted for a move to Beijing, China. In Beijing I lead the team for sales and marketing for an international company, setting up the newest international school in Beijing and improving standards in their other schools and businesses. Having worked with Simon Juniper at Only Bridging on a previous project a few years ago, we kept in contact and when he told me of his expansion plans, I jumped at the chance to join the team at Only Bridging as their new Sales Director.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

Like most little boys, I wanted to be a footballer! I technically achieved my dream, although the Herts District League is not quite the same as the Premiership!

What is the most significant difference you have seen in terms of bridging over the years up to now?

Whilst being new to bridging, this is hard to answer, however in my short time, I have seen a large increase in the amount of lenders, showing an appetite for the industry.

Which sports team do you support, if any, and why?

Chelsea. My old man supported them and used to take me to games.

If you could change one thing about the sector, what would it be?

Less packagers.

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose and why?

To see into the future. This would allow me to see disasters before they happen and warn people in advance. More importantly, I could also see if a deal was going to complete and wouldn’t have to waste time on deals going nowhere.

What was the last film you saw and what did you think of it?

The Inbetweeners, funny but not as good as the series and let’s be honest, briefcase w***er should have never got a girl that hot!

What would you put in room 101 if you had the chance?

Call centres, people that prolong meetings by asking the most inane questions and Pat Butcher's earrings. (RIP Pat)

What do you expect to happen in the bridging finance industry in 2012?

I expect a big boom in bridging this year and glad to be a part of it.

If you could do anything you wanted this Sunday, what would it be?

Sitting on a beach, being brought a nice cold beer on a silver tray, watching Match of the Day 2. This is a reality for me however as I will be on my honeymoon in Thailand.
