One of bridging’s finest has set his sights on being crowned this year’s toughest guy in bridging by competing in ‘The Original, The Best & British’ Tough Guy assault course.

Jonathan Caplan, Principal at Lowry Capital, will be taking part in the challenge, held on 13th July 2012, described on their site as 'the safest most dangerous event in the World’, to raise money for a cause very close to his heart, the Cancer Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales.

The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre provides inpatient, outpatient and support services for patients receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy across North Wales. Thanks to the work of fundraisers, the centre has been able to improve treatment and add greatly to the comfort of its patients.

Jonathan told us that he is training every Saturday for the course which involves “an eight mile assault course with electric shocks, seven foot nettles and under water tunnels” and last week his preparation involved “a nine mile cross country run involving crawling through bogs.”

Jonathan added: “I want to support the Cancer Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital for several reasons. My wife's niece was treated there at a very young age before she passed away four and a half years ago.

“My son was also born at the hospital and my father was treated there for several years before he passed away in November last year. They both always received great care.

“Cancer takes too many lives in this country considering how advanced we are and it's a cause which needs all our support, especially with budgets being cut.”

A great charity and one that we’re sure will resonate with a number of our readers – but, why the Tough Guy challenge?

“Well I'm 45, so it's better than an earring and a Harley.”

And so, here at B&C we’re calling on your generosity to support Jonathan’s cause – you can donate by contacting him at [email protected]
