Commercial lender Alternative Bridging Corporation (ABC) hired a new BDM, Mike Jones, last month. Jason McGee-Abe spoke to the man himself to find out a bit more about why the move into bridging, what makes him tick and the developments he predicts will affect the bridging and commercial industries over the coming year...

B&C: How did you get to where you are now? And what appealed about ABC?

MJ: The train... ABC is one the of the only specialist commercial lenders in the industry. We make fast decisions and are upfront as to what we do and don’t like straightaway. Plus, it’s a small team which means our decision making from beginning to end is coordinated and well communicated between us, the broker and the borrower.

What do you think are the biggest problems in bridging at the moment?

Too many chefs spoiling the broth.

Tell us one thing about you that not many people know?

I don’t want to say.

What is one of the things you would put on your “bucket list”?

Cage diving with great white sharks.

If you could change one thing about the sector, what would it be?

The re-finance market would have a bigger appetite.

Are you looking forward to the Olympics. If yes, which events are you looking forward to and why? Have you got your hands on any tickets?

No, the reason being I’m getting nothing from it other than travel chaos. I’d rather be watching Chelsea play than watching the Olympics.

If you had a dinner party, which three people would you invite and why?

Keith Lemon for pure entertainment, Dynamo as he is an amazing magician and my other half as she’s my everything.

If you were stranded on a tropical island what three things would you want with you?

Other half obviously! Sky Sports, and an infinite supply of Nando’s.

What do you expect to happen in the bridging finance industry over the next 12 months?

A variety of bridging lenders will disappear and with a bit of luck the banks will start to lend again.

If you could do anything you wanted this Sunday, what would it be?

To get away from the UK… anywhere with sun and a swimming pool!
