Royal family 'more useful' to UK business than the Olympics

Research undertaken by challenger bank Aldermore shows that, according to British SMEs, the Monarchy has been more beneficial to businesses than the summer Olympics.

Although nearly two-thirds (62 per cent) of SMEs agreed that the Olympics had a positive impact on British businesses, 87 per cent said that the Royal Family do a good job helping smaller enterprises and are, therefore, more useful.

Furthermore, 73 per cent of those surveyed disagreed with the statement that money spent on the monarchy would be better spent on generating jobs.

The research, which was conducted among 300 SME firms throughout the country, also confirms that 48 per cent of all business owners are working harder and just over a third (35 per cent) are taking less holiday than they did three years ago.

A third of respondents added that they generally work at least one day each weekend.

George Ashworth, Managing Director at Aldermore Asset Finance, said: “It isn’t just the Royal Family who are working hard to support Great Britain, but also the thousands of business owners running small and medium sized businesses across the country.

He added: “The difficult economic climate means that British bosses are giving it their all to keep their companies moving in the right direction, and they are clearly appreciative of anyone – the Queen included – who gives businesses a helping hand.”

Established in 2009, Aldermore has lent more than £1 billion to 12,000 SME customers throughout the UK and has increased its client base by 52 per cent in the past year.

Aldermore can help SMEs requiring funding of up to £10 million with a range of competitive finance facilities which are supported by a reliable, high quality service.
