Heavy fines for underpaying employers

.

While the backlash continues over the exorbitant bonuses of bank bosses, on the other end of the scale comes the warning for brokers to remind their clients about the change to the National Minimum Wage (NMW).

Employers can expect fines of up to £30,000 if they don’t comply with last month’s increase to the NMW. Rising by almost 4%, adults aged 22 and over must now be paid at least £5.73 an hour.

In these unstable times, it is vital for businesses keep on top of these increases and employers are made aware that failure to observe this change in the law can result in a substantial fine and even a criminal prosecution.

Statistics show that last year over 292,000 workers were paid below the National Minimum Wage.
