The Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling has stated the UK housing market is strong but will show signs of slowing down throughout the rest of the year. This comes after industry analysts have predicted a poor year for house prices.
Darling has claimed that UK is not as susceptible to a house price crash as the U.S.
He told Parliament that, “"I believe the housing market in this country, although it will slow down, is fundamentally strong.”
“In relation to the housing market, yes it is true that house prices are slowing down but this is on the back of many years when house prices have been growing at 10% or even more in some parts of the country for many, many years.”
