p>Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fife – who specialises in mortgage fraud investigations - has been booked for a "warts-and-all" seminar at the ASTL (the Association of Short-Term Lenders) conference early next week.

He will give a lawman's perspective of mortgage fraud, covering methods and counter-methods specific to this type of crime. Detective Fife will go over other crimes often related to mortgage fraud – cyber-crime, identity theft and money laundering. He is also set to give advice on protection against their own colleagues going rogue, committing fraud from within.

The officer said: “There are growing incidents of both mortgage and identity fraud and many of the frauds are becoming increasingly sophisticated.  The methods that the police use are also increasingly advanced and we will talk about some of the measures that lenders can take to work with police to uncover and prevent these crimes.”

The conference, entitled ‘Bridging – Opportunities and Challenges’, takes place on Tuesday 16 September at Painters’ Hall in the City of London.  It is an event aimed at all professionals with connections to the lending business.
