Tax dodging director's £200k dilemma

The future of a disgraced real estate director hangs in the balance.

<
p>A disgraced former real estate Director has been ordered to pay back more than £200,000 of criminal profits or face two years in jail.

Jasvinder Mahal, 42, formerly of King Charles Road, Kingston, London, was imprisoned for one year after being convicted of VAT fraud in October last year at Kingston Crown Court. She admitted to four counts of Cheating the Public Revenue.

Mahal, the former Director of six London companies, including real estate firm Mahal Consultancy Ltd, was found to have submitted false VAT returns using fake invoices and manipulated bank statements to claim VAT repayments she was not due.

As part of the ruling, Mahal was also banned from acting as a company director for seven years.
Last Friday a ruling was made for the ex-property boss, who is now out of prison on license, giving her just three months to rake together £207,047 or face a further two years and nine months behind bars.

Mahal had previously operated Mahal Beauty Ltd, Mahal Beauty Express Ltd, Mahal Restaurant Ltd, Mahal Investments (London) Ltd as well as Mahal Catering Ltd.

All but one of her companies, Mahal Consultancy Ltd, went into liquidation. Mahal Consultancy Ltd remains active as of today.

Mahal Beauty Ltd, Mahal Beauty Express Ltd and Mahal Restaurant Ltd were all liquidated in December 2011.

Both Mahal Investments (London) Ltd and Mahal Catering Ltd were liquidated in April 2012.
