There are many do’s and don’ts when attending an award ceremony which tend to followed by most guests.
However sometimes not everything goes to plan…
Taking defeat gracefully
Tantrums are common when someone doesn’t win the award they have strived to achieve but these are usually from the unlucky runner up.
However at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, a jubilant Taylor Swift was left stunned when Kanye West entered the stage and began his rant.
Kanye decided to criticise the decision to award Taylor with the best music video award, instead claiming Beyoncé was robbed and deserved to win.
An equally bemused Beyoncé distanced herself from Kanye’s claim and allowed Taylor to have her moment later on in the ceremony.
Beware of the free drink
One of the benefits of awards ceremonies is the free bar and complementary wine on the tables.
However, some award ceremonies do last a long time and pacing yourself is key, especially if you need to appear on stage to present an award.
Unfortunately Mariah Carey forgot to remember rule number one and appeared to be a little worse for wear as she went up to present an award.
Don’t upset your guests
Presenting an awards ceremony can be one of the most difficult tasks around.
Dealing with upset runners up, keeping the audience awake and more importantly making sure the crowd is on your side.
Unfortunately, when presenting the Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais rustled a few feathers from the get go.
The audience was left bemused as in his opening monologue he decided to insult the majority of guests leaving some angry and others rolling in the aisle with laughter.
Maintaining your composure
Awards ceremonies are very glamorous events with actors donning their sharpest suits and actresses wearing their most frilly frocks.
However, some actresses do go a little over the top when choosing their dresses and this was definitely the case for Jennifer Lawrence.
When she went to collect her award, Jennifer managed to get her feet caught in her dress and trip as she walked up the stairs.
Fortunately she laughed it off despite being left red-faced.
Never overreact
Winning an award can be very emotional after being rewarded for all your hard work.
However the key is to keep control of your emotions and not too overact too much, especially in front of a large audience.
However, after being awarded Best Actress at the 1999 Oscars, it all became too much for Gwyneth Paltrow.
She was overwhelmed after Jack Nicholson read her name out but as she began to speak the tear ducts opened and the waterworks flowed.
