The project, which features on Kickstarter, aims to raise £50,000 over the next 23 days to build the replica home and use it as a holiday destination for those wanting to experience a taste of middle-earth.

Along with the overnight stay guests will take part in a range of Hobbit-themed activities and visit the nearby Anglo-Saxon village, West Stow.

Jan Lengyel, the project’s owner and developer, said: “With the support of Kickstarter crowd funding we will be able to complete the project for next year’s bookings.”

“It’s an exciting opportunity to create a unique and individual holiday experience that captures the magic of Tolkien’s storytelling.”

The house will be a sustainable development spearheaded by specialist natural builder Jeffery Stuart Hart and will be built using low-impact environmental building techniques and materials, as well as low carbon power generation to supply underfloor heating and domestic hot water.

At the time of publishing pledgers had so far donated over £15,000 to the cause, with the highest donations currently at over £300.

A pledge of £15 or more will get you a free t-shirt, while a donation of £1,000 or more can give you the opportunity to be the very first person to spend five nights in the house - named “Poddit Hole.”

The reconstruction of the dwelling in the New Zealand’s famous filming location will feature a Victorian style interior with two double bedrooms, bathroom, log burner and kitchenette, and can sleep up to five people.

UPDATE AS OF 29.07.15: According to kickstarter, the Poddit Hole Holidays - Live Your Fantasy Halfling Adventure is the subject of an intellectual property dispute and is currently available. More to this as it unfolds.
