A global RBS head is set to join a challenger bank as chief risk officer subject to PRA approval.

Christine Palmer is currently Global Head of Operational Risk, Functions and Divested Businesses, and Director of Risk, Services at RBS, where she has worked for the last 13 years.

Christine’s appointment follows Steve Barry’s decision to step down from the SME-focused bank, where he has been Chief Risk Officer since 2009.

The two will work closely with each other to ensure an orderly handover.

Phillip Monks, CEO of Aldermore said: “I am delighted that Christine is joining Aldermore as Chief Risk Officer and look forward to welcoming her to the bank.

“Christine is highly respected, brings considerable banking experience to her new role, and will be a real asset to the bank’s executive committee as we continue to provide the support SMEs and individuals need to succeed and achieve their ambitions.

“I’d very much like to thank Steve Barry for the invaluable role he has played as Chief Risk Officer over the last six and a half years.”

Before joining RBS in 2002, Christine held a consultancy role at professional services firm Ernst & Young, where she focused on credit risk management in the financial services risk management practice.
