Challenger bank acquires tech firm

Atom Bank has bought North East IT development business Grasp (UK) Limited.

The digital challenger bank is acquiring Grasp’s video gaming expertise to create an engaging user experience in banking.

As part of the deal, Brian Jobling, the owner of Grasp, has become business development director at Atom.

Grasp’s development team will also be joining Durham-based Atom, bringing with it extensive experience of working with some of the biggest consumer brands in the world including F1, NASCAR, MTV and James Bond.

Edward Twiddy, Chief Innovations Officer at Atom Bank, said he first spoke to Brian about what gaming and the North East development industry could offer in 2014, when Atom was “just an idea”.

“Now on the cusp of going live and after several months of testing, we are bringing some of the best in digital design and development into the heart of the family,” Edward commented.

“It’s great to have found such a talented and dedicated team.

“Their work is our shop window and we’re really excited about what has already been built, and all the future promises.”

Brian added: “Atom Bank is one of the most exciting projects in the North East and my passion for the region meant myself and the team couldn’t possibly turn down the opportunity to work with Atom.

“An amazing development environment has already been created at Atom and it’s great to be part of a business with such enthusiasm and drive.”

Last year, Atom received a £45m investment from Spanish lender BBVA and teamed up with technology supplier IRESS for a long-term strategic partnership.
