New legal service launched to tackle unfair solicitors' bills

.

According to Marc Yaffe, the head of business development at new legal service ab8, the current problems in the property market have made unscrupulous behaviour by industry professionals much harder to disguise.

“In this market everyone is being careful and monitoring their costs much more carefully. Solicitors are no longer able to get away with overcharging their clients.” He confirmed.

ab8 was launched just over a month ago as part of Boote Edgar Esterkin solicitors to help clients who feel they have been overcharged or treated unfairly by their solicitors and are currently dealing with a number of large cases.

Mr Yaffe continued: “There has been one case where a solicitor in a commercial property case quoted £14,000 for his work and charged £29,000 instead, whereas once this may have been accepted, now it’s very different.”

As the downturn still shows no sign of picking up, there has been a huge rise in the number of complaints from consumers about how they have been treated by legal and financial firms – and an equally large number of companies claiming to help fight unfair charges.

However, perhaps a service promising to take on unreasonable legal bills and achieve a saving for consumers could give introducers a new way to provide their clients with good value for money – in a time when customer satisfaction is more important than ever.

“We aim to achieve a substantial net saving for our clients, therefore we only take the cases on that we think have the potential to get results. I hate to use the phrase ‘no win, no fee’ but if anyone thinks they have an issue, they can call us with no obligation.” Mr Yaffe concluded.
