Housing market hiccups seem to have skipped past the exclusive Dorset peninsula of Sandbanks, following news that a plot of land has gone on the market there for a huge £13.5 million.

According to the Telegraph newspaper, the 1,393 square metre plot, described as unkempt and filled with weeds, comes with its own beach and has a panoramic view of Poole Bay.

The plot works out at nearly £10,000 per square metre – not to mention that the eventual buyer will have to shell out around £5 million to build a house fit for its upmarket surroundings.

Apparently the land is large enough to build the biggest mansion on Sandbanks, which has been dubbed “the millionaire resort.”

Despite the uphill costs, estate agents have claimed that the site has already garnered a large amount of interest.

“The people who look to pay nearly £20 million for a property aren't affected by the recession,” confirmed Tony Doyle of Lloyds Property Group.

It was recently revealed that Sandbanks is the fourth most expensive place in the world to buy property, ranked just behind London, New York and Tokyo.
