Derelict shack set to fetch £150,000 at property auction

.

A bungalow on the North York Moors described as a “semi-derelict shack” and “something out of a horror film” by newspapers has been given a guide price of £150,000 at a property auction.

However, it is expected to attract even higher bids as estate agents and auctioneers, Cundalls, claim it has received hundreds of inquiries from potential buyers who can see the “vast potential” of Whitegate Bungalow, which has “stunning sea views” and comes with two acres of land.

Tom Watson from Cundalls has said: “It's the old adage: location, location, location. If that property was elsewhere it wouldn't be worth half as much.”

The property, near Scarborough, is now on the market for the first time in 70 years, and will be auctioned this week at the Falcon Inn in Staintondale.

The bungalow features a corrugated iron porch, a series of outbuildings, as well as a small, outside toilet.

“Whoever buys this place is going to be taking a risk, but it will be a risk worth taking.” Mr Watson added.
