Ex-HSBC head to join challenger bank

A challenger bank has appointed a former HSBC head as an independent non-executive director

Shawbrook has appointed an independent non-executive director with the intention of electing him Chairman of the Board Risk Committee…

Paul Lawrence was formally Global Head of Group Internal Audit for HSBC and takes up the position with immediate effect.

Iain Cornish, Chairman at Shawbrook, said: “Paul brings over 30 years' commercial and operational experience in banking and will be a valuable addition to the Board of Shawbrook.”

“I look forward to working with him and to his contribution to the continued success of the Group."

Meanwhile Shawbrook has announced its service level agreement (SLA) metrics for July, with the lender processing 4,649 items.

The bank states it is the only lender to release these figures publicly.

Karen Bennett, Sales and Marketing Director of Commercial Mortgages at Shawbrook Bank, said: “Many businesses would see releasing SLA data on a monthly business as a high-risk approach, but we take a different view.”

“Efficient processing across the offering is critical in today’s fast moving property market, so we believe it’s right to be open with brokers about our standards.”

99.6% of the bank’s term loans were processed within 72 hours and 100% of short term loans were processed within 48 hours.

Karen added: “We know our brokers appreciate this demonstrable commitment to transparency, and 11 months after we released our first set of SLA figures, we remain hopeful that Shawbrook’s openness will help set the standard for transparency in the industry.

“It remains to be seen whether other lenders will follow suit.”
