The Land Registry has just launched a “Find a Property” service which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing users to buy information on more than 23 million registered properties in England and Wales.

The service will provide access to ownership details, title plans and flood risk indicator results “whenever you want to use it”.
A self-funding government agency created in 1862, the Land Registry records any ownership changes, mortgages or leases affecting any property in England and Wales entered on the Land Register.

The service offers immediate on-screen access to title information, dedicated telephone support and the ability to search for property by postal address or Aerial Land Locator.

Signing up is free, but subsequent payment for specific services is by credit or debit card.

For most properties that have changed hands since April 2000, the title register shows property price information, whilst the Flood Risk Indicator is a textual result indicating flood risk to registered land.

It combines Environment Agency flood data with Land Registry property data to provide customers with a “high level indication” of whether a piece of land is at risk of flooding.

The agency has also announced that, as of today, business customers will be able to access portal and Business Gateway from 6:30am until 11pm everyday including bank holidays.

These services are normally available from 6:30am until 10pm from Monday to Friday and up to 5pm on Saturday.

It’s just a three month trial at this stage, but could lead to extending service hours in the future.
