The lender also reported record growth in mortgage lending, favourable funding conditions and a reduction in impairment provisions and charges.
Peter Hill, Chief Executive of Leeds Building Society, said residential mortgage lending was significantly above its market share and had increased by 22%.
“Bank Base Rate remains at an historical low and the Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, indicated last month that interest rates may start to rise slowly, perhaps as early as the turn of this year,” said Peter.
“We anticipate a modest increase in the size of the mortgage market for 2015 and expect competition for new business to intensify as established lenders and new entrants look to achieve market share.”
The building society has also created 120 new roles as it looks to increase its capacity and improve its products and services.
