In a heavily regulated and often bureaucratic lending market, it is tough enough to get lenders to perform quickly when presenting them with a vanilla case which ticks all of the boxes. Start to go outside of the box and present something which is different from the norm and you could  be met by a wall of silence.

So who should you turn to when you need a lending decision to be made on a truly individual basis rather than relying on a credit committee or a computer? The answer is: a specialist lender with their own funds and a detailed knowledge of its sector.

At Regentsmead the first half of 2014 has seen a large upturn in new business completed that has been far outside of its usual lending parameters as it has stepped into areas where other lenders would be fearful of. The widely publicised Astbury case involving rock legend KK Downing and golfing superstar Darren Clarke was a great example of Regentsmead stepping out of the box, however its adventures into the unordinary have shown no signs of slowing.

More recently it has completed on a substantial barn conversion in West Midlands which involves taking security on a property in the Scottish countryside, owned by a British Virgin Islands company. Whilst most lenders would immediately be turned off by the inevitable legal complications bought about by this, Regentsmead was able to use its expertise and existing network to get the deal done.

Similarly in March the multi-award winning development lender agreed to fund a new build in the Grimsby area, which is again some way out of its designated geographical parameter that it would typically lend in.

Regentsmead Chief Executive James Bloom noted: “Being a true principal lender means that ultimately we aren’t behold to external shareholders or investors and that puts us in a very powerful position. When we are presented with a case that is outside of what we typically lend on brokers know that it is always worthwhile putting the case to us given that we can provide immediate decisions and give a commence sense view rather than a ‘computer says no’ approach that we have come to associate with modern day lending practises. If you get something out of the ordinary come and talk to us and you may be surprised.”

Just this week Regentsmead has announced the launch of its Golden Ticket promotion which will focus around the upcoming NACFB Commercial Finance Expo in Birmingham later in June. This will give attendees the chance to win a five star meal for two at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant in London. The Regentsmead team will be present on stand F07 with their famous chocolate bars in tow, several of which will contain prize winning golden tickets for the lucky individuals that finds them.

Whilst the notion of anything different, unusual or out of the ordinary is usually removed from the parlance of lenders existing today, Regentsmead continue to pride itself on its ability to step outside the box. Whether it is to get a deal done or to continue to feed vast amounts of chocolate and lavish lunches to expo attendees Regentsmead are certainly not your normal lender.

Working with Regentsmead is always a unique experience and it can also dispel the theory that there is no such thing as a free lunch!
