A property developer has struck two leasing deals on properties in Regent’s Park in an effort to create one of Britain’s most expensive homes, at over £200 million.
Entrepreneur Marcus Cooper, 47, struck the deals with the Crown Estate which will see 6-10 Cambridge Terrace and 1-2 Chester Gate combined to make “London’s first £200 million property”.
The proposed property will have around 50,000 square feet and even an underground leisure facility, making it one of London’s largest residences.
Mr Cooper has taken a 150-year lease from the Crown Estate on the properties, which previously had been used as offices, and a separate lease on 15-16 Cornwall Terrace on the edge of Regent’s Park.
Despite the seven properties culminating to make one £200 million property, the buyer will have to pay £14 million in stamp duty.
The new property will contain: a 40ft-long hanging roof garden; 15 Bedrooms; 35 bathrooms; a banqueting hall and billiards room; grand spiral staircase; basement leisure complex with swimming pool, cinema and bar; and a car lift from street level to sub-basement car park.
The property mogul, Marcus Cooper, bought the seven houses back in 2007, for a reported £23.7 million from the Crown Estate.
He has spent the past 20 years buying some of the Capital’s most extravagant properties, most recently, Mr Cooper sold three terraces for £120 million to the Qatari royal family.
The seven houses - Numbers 6 to 10 Cambridge Terrace and Numbers 1 and 2 Chester Gate - are Grade I listed buildings designed by John Nash - the same architect of Buckingham Palace.
