As the General Election creeps ever closer, manifestos seem to be multiplying as political parties bid to claim a seat in Britain’s most exclusive house.

However, if you scratch the surface of this pile of hefty documents, you will stumble across some unusual policies put forward by the lesser known UK parties over the years.

The Church of the Militant Elvis Party

AKA: Bus Pass Elvis Party, Elvis Loves Pets, Militant Elvis Anti HS2, and Elvis and the Yeti Himalayan Preservation Party

The Church of the Militant Elvis Party, also known as the Bus Pass Elvis Party, will be standing at this year’s election led by Mr David Laurence Bishop on the 7th May, according to the grumpyoldelvis.co.uk website. This party believes that Elvis is still alive and living in an old people’s home on the Lincolnshire Coast.

Manifesto points include:

•    Better daytime television for people on benefits.
•    Have a 5mph speed limit on people who cycle on pavements.
•    Stop UKIP from scrapping the climate change act.

2. Monster Raving Looney Party

A very recognisable party, quite literally! Dressed in bold hats and giant rosettes, this party likes to stand out.

2010 Policies included:

•    Banning all forms of Greyhound racing to help stop the country ‘going to the dogs’.
•    Replace the House of Commons speaker with the latest audio equipment.
•    Eurofit: Sorting out The European Constitution by going for a long Walk. “As everyone knows that walking is good for the constitution”
•    As strong believers of ‘Female Intuition’, this party pledged to increase the number of Women teachers throughout the education system.

3. Free United Kingdom Party (FUKP)

Led by Pub landlord Al Murray FUKP, in a recent twitter campaign the party asks: “Where are the normal, sensible, down to earth people in this country? That’s right, in the pub.” adding, “Its important that we are represented”.

The Pub Landlord deployed a refreshing tactic while of publishing his party’s manifesto:

FUKP’s foreign policy includes:

4. Cannabis is Safer than Alcohol

CISTA will be fielding 32 candidates in next month’s election including in London, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Policies include:

•    Proposals for a new evidence-based, cross-party, humane and non-partisan approach to drug reform, starting with cannabis.

5.  The Dungeons Death and Taxes Party

According to The BBC, IN 2005 the satirical Dungeons Death and Taxes party registered their address as the London Dungeons and fielded two candidates.

According to the BBC Proposals included:

•    To reintroduce hanging, "but only for minor offences such as writing graffiti and dropping litter".
•    To occupy and annexe France, and to propose tax rates of 90 per cent.

Neither candidate managed to overthrow the main parties.
