Metro Bank supports gender neutrality

Metro Bank has announced it will be offering people who do not identify with a specific gender the chance to choose 'non-binary' as a gender option.

The bank will also allow customers and colleagues of the bank to choose ‘Mx’ as a title.

Metro Bank is now calling on other banks to follow its lead with Danny Hamer, chief people officer, saying the bank had the opportunity to help drive forward equality and it was proud to be taking an active stand on the issue.

“Our ‘no stupid bank rules’ approach means exactly that, and not offering people the option to identify themselves as they choose is a barrier that we’re pleased to have removed.

“Making sure our customers and colleagues feel comfortable and accepted is a real priority for us, that’s why we listened and acted on the feedback we received.

“We hope that today’s announcement will help encourage others to follow in our footsteps.”

Danny was recently named on the Financial Times’ OUTstanding LGBT and Ally Executives List.

Metro Bank recently posted its first quarterly pre-tax profit since launching.

It has also opened new branches in Clapham and Wimbledon, as well as appointed an ex-Bibby director to head up its invoice finance team.
