Challenger bank launches voice automation service

Customers of challenger bank N26 are now able to send money via iPhone's 'Siri'.

The voice-automated service will allow customers to send transfers of up to £21.40, with a daily limit of approximately £85.78.

The news comes less than two months after N26 received its European banking licence.

Valentin Stalf, founder and CEO of N26, said: “Our customers can transfer money by simply saying a single sentence.

“It doesn’t get easier than that!”

Apple introduced the new technology at the Worldwide Developer Conference 2016 following the launch of its new iOS 10 update.

Users simply have to download the N26 app or activate it in Siri’s settings, followed by the instruction: “Hey Siri, send [amount of money] to [person] with N26”.

The tech giant’s iMessage app also allows N26 customers to request money from their contacts.

This is not an altogether new development for Berlin-based N26, with its customers previously having been able to send money in SMS or email form through the MoneyBeam app.

However, the bank now claims to be the first in Germany to offer payments through voice commands.

Earlier this year, N26 courted controversy after closing hundreds of customers’ accounts without warning.
