Commercial property investors favour Germany over UK

One in three commercial real estate investors (33%) has suggested that Germany is their preferred region to invest in, according to research by an online real estate investment platform.

BrickVest’s commercial property investment barometer has revealed that for the first time Germany has been chosen as the number one region to invest in, ahead of the UK (27%).

The UK witnessed a drop from 33% to 31% in the last quarter, and from 32% in the same barometer 12 months ago.

Nearly one in five (17%) chose the US, which represented a slight rise from 12 months ago (16%), while France was chosen by 15%, the same as Q3 last year.

The barometer also revealed that UK, German and US investors favoured the UK less than last year.

Some 45% of UK, 21% of US, 19% of French and 18% of German investors indicated that they favoured the UK this quarter, this was a decrease across the board compared with last year when the results were 46%, 26%, 28% and 21% respectively.

BrickVest’s barometer also highlighted that the investment objective for just over half (55%) of its online investors was capital growth, compared with 33% who said income.

BrickVest barometer results for Q3 2017:

Emmanuel Lumineau, CEO at BrickVest (pictured above), said: “Our latest barometer reveals that Germany has overtaken the UK as the location of choice to invest in commercial real estate.

“Investor risk appetite continues to rise as commercial real estate offers opportunities, especially in the form of debt-like investments, which offer good risk-adjusted returns in a volatile market environment.”
